The broadest W1 body-style range
The Cutlass Supreme explored more versions of the original W-body than any sibling: coupe, sedan and convertible; luxury and performance trims; four-cylinder and V6 power; and multiple manual-transmission combinations.
Milestones
- 1988: W-body coupe launches, including the performance-focused International Series.
- 1990: sedan and convertible expand the family; high-output Quad 4 applications add a different performance character.
- 1991: 3.4L DOHC LQ1 joins the range, including rare five-speed combinations.
- 1992: exterior refresh brings the distinctive mini-quad headlamp look to coupe/convertible.
- 1994: driver airbag becomes standard; 3100 SFI era expands.
- 1995: dual-airbag dashboard arrives; convertible production ends during the model run.
- 1996: final LQ1 year; lineup simplifies.
- 1997: final Cutlass Supreme model year closes the original W1 family.
Why the International matters
International Series cars are among the most enthusiast-oriented early W-bodies. Depending on year, they could combine sport suspension tuning, distinctive interiors, driver-information electronics, head-up display, manual transmissions and the platform’s more unusual engine choices.

Three distinct personalities
Coupe
The original form of the W-body Cutlass Supreme and the strongest home for International-series performance hardware.
Sedan
Added for 1990 and carried the nameplate through 1997, increasingly focused on comfort and mainstream V6 power.
Convertible
Produced from 1990 through 1995. Its rarity, complex body hardware and unique trim make condition and completeness especially important.
