Chevrolet Lumina Z34
The Z34 gave Chevrolet’s first W-body coupe a distinct performance identity: deep aero bodywork, sport suspension and GM’s high-revving 3.4-liter DOHC LQ1 V6.
Built around the Z34 front end
The early Z34 is defined visually by its unique front fascia, hood louvers, rocker treatment and rear spoiler. Those details are central to the car’s identity and increasingly important when evaluating originality.
The LQ1 changes the Lumina
The 24-valve DOHC V6 gave the Z34 a completely different character from the pushrod 3.1. Manual-transmission cars received the rare Getrag 284 five-speed during the early run, while automatic cars used GM four-speed automatics.
3.4 DOHC LQ1
Early manual calibrations were rated as high as 210 horsepower, while automatic applications were generally rated at 200 horsepower.
Z34-specific tuning
Sport suspension tuning, wheels and tires complemented the aero package and made the Z34 more than an appearance model.
