W1 performance before the DOHC era
Before the LQ1-powered GTP arrived, Pontiac established the first-generation Grand Prix as a serious performance platform with a limited-production turbo program developed with ASC/McLaren.
Turbocharged 3.1
The program used a turbocharged and intercooled version of GM’s 60-degree V6, rated at 205 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque. Power was routed through a four-speed automatic.

ASC/McLaren performed the conversion work and helped turn the Grand Prix into a distinct halo model rather than simply a trim package.
