Although the Caballero never developed the same performance mythology as the Grand National or Monte Carlo SS, the Diablo gives GMC a recognizable enthusiast identity within the G-body family.
Graphics & trim
Period references identify the Diablo from the beginning of Caballero production, using hood graphics and additional sport-oriented trim to distinguish it from the standard truck.
Shared powertrains
Diablo appearance did not automatically mean a unique high-output engine. Engine and transmission choices still followed the underlying Caballero/El Camino model-year offerings.
Verify the year
Graphics, emblems, trim and available colors can change across years. Restoration accuracy requires year-correct brochures, RPO information and surviving original details.
What to document on a real Diablo
Original trim evidence
Photograph emblems, hood graphics, moldings and any surviving labels before restoration work removes evidence.
RPO / VIN / paperwork
Use factory paperwork and option documentation to distinguish original equipment from later dealer or owner modifications.
Mechanical specification
Document engine, carburetion/fuel system, transmission and axle separately from the Diablo appearance identity.
Hagerty's Caballero history identifies the Diablo sport version as available from the model's beginning, with hood graphics and extra trim. Master Customs intentionally avoids treating that package as a guaranteed performance-engine specification.
